Overview
Use all, some, any, no, and every with countable and uncountable nouns to express amounts and quantities.
Core Distinctions
- allall — the whole amount: all the milk, all my friends
- somesome — a positive quantity: some water, some people
- anyany — questions/negatives/conditions: any milk?, not any left
- nono — zero: no time, no students
some vs any in Questions
- any: neutral questions — Is there any milk?
- some: offers / requests — Would you like some tea?
- some: expecting yes — Can I have some help?
- any = 'it doesn't matter which': Take any seat you like.
Common Mistakes
- ❌ I don't have some time → ✅ any time (negatives use any)
- ❌ All the people left → ✅ All the people left (no double 'all the the')
- ❌ There isn't no food → ✅ There isn't any food (no double negative)
