Types of Adverbs

  • MannerHow? quickly, carefully, well, hard, fast
  • FrequencyHow often? always, usually, often, sometimes, never
  • DegreeHow much? very, quite, too, enough, extremely
  • TimeWhen? now, yesterday, already, soon, recently

Position Rules

  • Manner: usually after the verb/object — She drives carefully.
  • Frequency: before the main verb, after beHe always arrives late.
  • Degree: directly before the adjective/adverb — It's very cold.
  • Never between verb and object: ❌ She speaks fluently English

Common Mistakes

  • ❌ She sings beautiful → ✅ She sings beautifully
  • ❌ He works hardly → ✅ He works hard (no -ly)
  • ❌ I usually am tired → ✅ I am usually tired
