Overview

Adjectives describe or modify nouns and pronouns. They can appear before the noun (a beautiful city) or after a linking verb (The city is beautiful). In English, adjectives do not change for gender or number. When multiple adjectives are used, they follow a fixed order: opinion, size, age, shape, colour, origin, material.
